Short chronicle
Digger Street is an emerging Artist In Residence project currently encompassing four large Queenslanders. It houses around 20 artists from a variety of diciplines.
Short description of programme
Digger Street aims to create a sanctuary for the artist to immerse themselves in their art. Situated in the tropics where balmy winter days make way for the tempest of the wet. Focus is encouraged in the direction of the artist and the land both physically, emotionally, creatively. Digger Street, is a self-funding residential space used primarily to house artists and their passion.

Duration of residencies
3 months. Longer residencies are also available by arrangement
Grants
Need to be applied for by the artist. Digger Street can assist in this process by providing letters of support and advice
Allowance granted to artists
Digger Street tackles Artist Funding by bringing down the cost of existing as an artist. Staying at Digger costs no more than $165 per week including all food, bills, internet, phone etc. Artists also benefit from exchange with other tenanted artists in the community.
Expenses paid by artists
Digger Street has accomodation rental at AUD$165 per week all inclusive.

Exhibition opportunities for visiting artists exist within the programme. Digger Street can also assist in facilitating other activities including exhibitions, visits, events, etc

Type and size of studios
Every room is different in size and aspect and is equipped with basic furniture.
Accomodation
The residential studios centre around 346 which houses meeting space, community kitchen, is equipped with cooking facilities (refrigerator, stove, kitchen appliances), bed, furnishings, television, radio, telephone. Kitchen equipment including crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, glasses, tea pot and coffee plunger is also provided, as is one set of bed linen and towels. It is advised that artists bring an alternative set of bed linen and towels. Digger Street also has private shower and toilet facilities. A washing machine is provided. Rooms are suitable for a single artist or couple, its open plan means it is not very workable for families.
Category of comfort
Digger Street is an intentional community for artists. Some effort is expected in regards to equity in keeping the place presentable. While all foodstuffs are supplied to kitchen meals are prepared by the artists themselves as a group.

Digger Street has a number of medium size spaces, where it excels is in its open space. For large scale installation artists there is much open space. Digger Street can facilitate small festivals, thematic conferences and workshops.
